More Info:

Students will receive weekly lessons in photography from a photography instructor. They will learn how to use the aperture and shutter speed in specific situations, how to work with natural light, and what times of day create the most compelling images. They will also learn the nuances of composition, exposure and framing so they can take better pictures. Team Wilderness provides digital SLR cameras for students to share and learn how to use. The classes will take place in a classroom and some days may practice outside the center as well.

They will be offered a minimum of 3 trips through the duration of the trimester. These trips are an opportunity to practice nature photography. This will present them with an opportunity to practice taking photographs of wildlife, flowers, and landscapes. During trips they receive light meals.

Students that remain dedicated to learning how to use the camera will have an opportunity to display prints of their work in a gallery at the end of the trimester. The gallery is part of JC Fridays. Presented by Art House Productions, JC Fridays features art events that take place in restaurants, galleries, stores, and event spaces in almost every neighborhood of Jersey City. Students will receive guidance in choosing the pictures they would like printed on canvas. They will be given a budget and have to select the size and cost of the print and the price they would like to list the print for sale. Their work will be sold and all profits will go directly to the student artist. At Team Wilderness’ most recent art gallery the students earned nearly $800 through the sale of their works.
